American Red Cross Products by Etón Help Families Prepare During Emergency Preparedness Month

PALO ALTO, Calif.--Etón Corporation, a leading emergency preparedness company and creator of green-powered electronics, is helping families do more than cross their fingers during National Preparedness Month. The American Red Cross by Etón products provide the essentials of light, information and energy, helping families plan ahead for any unexpected situation.

“Through our joint efforts with the American Red Cross, we encourage all families to take the proper steps as soon as possible to become prepared in the event of the unexpected.”

To prepare for any unforeseen circumstance such as a natural disaster, the Red Cross recommends a simple, three-step approach: Get a Kit, Make a Plan, and Stay Informed. A vital part of every kit is a self-powered emergency radio, which provides up-to-date information and weather conditions – even when power in the home fails.

The collection of emergency radios by Etón are self-powered and charged by four sources, including dynamo/hand crank, alkaline batteries, AC adapter or solar power. Each radio provides AM/FM radio and all seven National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather band channels to provide emergency weather information and public alerts. In addition, the emergency radios have an integrated LED flashlight and a USB port for charging cell phones via hand-crank.

The American Red Cross line by Etón also includes several compact preparedness devices – the Blackout Buddy, ClipRay and Aluminator Flashlight Series. The Blackout Buddy emergency LED flashlight plugs into and charges from a wall socket, doubling as a nightlight while charging. The light automatically engages when power fails, making it easy to locate. The ClipRay LED flashlight features a hand-crank and USB charger, plus a carabiner clip for hands-free convenience. The line is rounded out by the Aluminator Flashlights, which are constructed from high-grade aluminum, splash-proof and produce up to 120 lumens of light from the CREE LEDs.

“Though September is dedicated to disaster preparedness and marks the peak of hurricane season, severe weather and other natural disasters can occur at any time,” says John Smith, Vice President and Chief of Staff at Etón Corporation. “Through our joint efforts with the American Red Cross, we encourage all families to take the proper steps as soon as possible to become prepared in the event of the unexpected.”

The American Red Cross products by Etón are available at Radio Shack, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Amazon.com and online at www.etoncorp.com. Etón Corporation contributes a portion of every unit sold to support the mission of the American Red Cross.
